I opened up a couple of old TMCC Cab1's tonight, hoping to make one good one out of two. (You never have enough remotes around when there's a mob of grandkids over visiting haha!) I spotted an unknown object inside, per the arrow below. Maybe a bit bigger than a quarter, round, with a red and a black wire soldered to it. What the heck is it and what does it do?

Yah that's it Vernon! My first thought  was a speaker of some kind, but I honestly don't think I have ever heard a peep out of any Cab1 I've used in over 14 years of running command. Is there something you have to do to toggle it on?

Here is the pic I tried to attach to the OP, but it went sideways somehow I guess. Maybe too much wine last night, can't be sure.

It only makes a very light beep or tone when buttons are pressed and might be out of your range of hearing. Again, it's not loud and it's just a beep to indicate a button was pressed. Even I sometimes in a loud situation say at train club, have to hold it near my head or ear to hear it, but it how you know if the battery contacts are making connection and the remote is at least responding to button presses.

Again, in testing a CAB1, I normally check for the "beep" to indicate the remote is at least semi working with good batteries and contacts, then looking at the base for the corresponding LED flash indicating the commanded button press was received by the base.
