Why does Lionel put its name on cars

Let me see if I get this right:  

 

They come out of a box that has "Lionel" on it, they say "Lionel" underneath the cars & engines, and you're now inclined to not buy anything that doesn't have the BBL placard on the sides, even though you know full well it is still Lionel?

And these trains nowadays aren't actually "Built" by Lionel anymore anyway; they're imported from 3rd party contractors; even the "Made in USA"  products are sub-contracted to a different manufacturing company and not actually "built" by Lionel.  It's essentially a misnomer so why put it on anyway?

I say if BBL is offensive, remove it from the car/engine or don't buy it.  It's that simple.  Personally, BBL on the car doesn't bother me.

It doesn't really matter how anyone feels about it now because Mike stated how it "will be" in the future. It's a done deal...move on to the next complaint!

 

Not to mention it will be carried on with their traditional products, so it's not like it's disappearing altogether.

 

And obviously it must have been a complaint with more customers that buy the higher-end premium scale products than those that didn't; otherwise they wouldn't have done it.  Sounds like a very democratic approach if you ask me, which is not always a bad thing.

 

Some would argue that it was small and unobtrusive, but on the other hand that very argument could be used as another counter-argument of why keeping it there is sort of pointless in the first place.  If one is really hung up on seeing the Lionel name on the sides of the cars & locomotives then it would make more sense than rather have something so tiny that if you walk more than a foot away is indecipherable anyway so you might as well focus on those products that have "LIONEL LINES" in large, friendly letters on the sides since those are much more prominent anyway.  

Seems like a perfect solution, Scale Models will not have it,yet the Traditional products will.

They are not rolex and of course the train are not LIONEL.

All I can say is it is a hobby and each of us have different viewpoints about it.  If BBL is offensive to you, then your railroad should take the necessary measures to eliminate that from your engines and rolling stock.  Not everyone has the same passions.  Run your railroad the way you feel comfortable with running it.  If guests you invite have objections to the way you run your railroad, don't invite them back.  It's a hobby for crying out loud.  Enjoy it instead of getting so upset over the petty issues.

I'll sleep a lot better at night knowing the tiny "Built by Lionel" blurb has been removed from the Lionel scale cars.  Now, about those unrealistic roller pick-ups... 

 

Because all good artists sign their work.

In case they get lost or stolen... they can be returned to the proper owner.

When I was a kid,  I thought there actually was a real railroad called Lionel lines.   Shame my imagination is now gone and I know there is not.

Can we please stop quoting others posts and including the pictures?!   There are 4 sets of the same photos in this discussion!

None of the "scale freight cars" that I own, have any roller pick-ups at all. 

I like it when I see the "Built by Lionel" together with a year.  I particularly love it on the postwar and postwar reproduction F3s.  It makes me smile.  My dad's rolling stock has it and I like the continuity to the newer products as well.  Putting on the bottom for the scale items is a sound compromise.  Thank you for listening.
