Guys - I have a question.  I have a Fastrack layout with Fastrack remote switches (not command switches)  I have 12 switches, most of them 0-36 and some 0-48.  Today, all of a sudden when I turned on my layout, ONE of the O-36 switches started "buzzing" - none of the others are doing it.  The ONLY thing that has changed is that I replaced my MRC Pure Power transformer with the new Lionel ZW-L today.

When I push down on the switch, it stops buzzing a lot, or when I put a screw threw the screw hole and tighten it to the board, it lessens - but it doesn't go away completely.  I can still here it buzzing if I put me ear up to it.  I have vacuumed it thinking there may be debris in there, and I have switched it back and forth - no change.  NONE of the other switches are doing this and it's driving me CRAZY!

Any educated guesses? Thanks!

Try throwing it one way and rolling a car through it the opposite to activate the nonderail feature. Try this with it set through, and on the diverging route.

The last time I had a similar problem, the switch mechanism was not fully activating the microswitch controlling the non derail feature. This was making the switch "think " it needed to be thrown, so it buzzed because it was still trying to turn the already turned rails.

If rolling a car through the switch opposite of the way it is turned does not activate the non derail feature turning the points in the correct direction it could be the same issue.

That didn't work - tried it a few times.  Still buzzing!

Problem solved.

..at $90 a pop, I'd hope to find a way to fix it! But, I suppose if all else fails, yours is the sure fire solution.

Okay, you've "crossed your fingers" and "clicked your heels together three times" and said " That there is no buzz, there is no buzz, there is no buzz".  Now it's times to pull the switch out and put it on the work bench.

Apply power and see if it still buzzes.  If it doesn't, then your problem is most likely somewhere on the track where it was installed..

If it is buzzing, then you will have to uncover the bottom of the switch to reveal the wiring and the mechanism, looking for damaged parts. Shorts on the boards will be problematic, but you at least will have eliminated several possibilities. look especially at the geared swivel that contacts the micro switches at the end of each sides travel.  "Click" them manually to see if they work and if it would stop the  "BUZZ".  Lets us know what happens.   Dennis M.
