The universal joint or rubber flex joint may be worn out or stripped, I have replaced them with Model Airplane fuel tubing.

The gearbox could have a stripped gear, they are hard to find parts, but try NWSL for gears or a new gearbox.

I have brought basket-case Williams locos off EBAY and swap meets, in order to get hard to find parts.

William Brass Steamers sell fairly cheap due to their common problems and lack of tech support.

1st, let’s see a pic of the 4-6-4 you’re speaking of.....Williams has made a couple different models of these. They make a traditional sized one, and the “scale” model. If you’re working with the scale model, Bachmann trains has just about every part for these listed on their website. They have not changed the design of that locomotive, and the Williams by Bachmann parts are interchangeable. Sometimes they go in and out of stock, but if you catch them just right, they’re in.....but we need to see what you got first...so either an item no. or a picture. As far as who can repair it for you, look no further than right above your very own thread at the host of forum sponsors that keep this forum alive....you getting your train fixed, supports them, and they support the forum, and the wheels go round & round....😉..........Pat
