I just bought a Williams by Bachmann NS heritage Dash9 diesel allegedly with True-Blast Plus sound. The prime mover sounds are very anemic and the horn & bell do not seem to function at all. Is there a volume control on this? I took off the shell but could see no adjusting screw on the sound board.

I am also having this issue with the sound being very weak and would like to learn if there is anything that would improve this issue. The engine and bell sound is not too bad, but the horn is barely noticeable above the engine sounds and general track noise.
I have worked on the Williams with True Blast 2, not the True Blast Plus. However with the True Blast 2 there is a small volume switch or potentiameter (looks like an old TV from the 1970's volume switch)that needs to be adjusted. On the newer True Blast 2 units there is a build-up of wax that usually needs to be removed around the adjusting screw area, take a small flat tip screwdriver and remove most of the wax then take a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to finish cleaning the area, then you can adjust the volume.
Have you tried asking your question on the Bachmann forum under Williams section? Maybe a Bachmann person can answer your question. Or email one of the Bachmann administrators on the Williams forum.

OK, I see the sound board, but where is the adjustment? Is it that protusion on the black rectangle on the board? Is the factory preset less than max?
Looks like he circled it in the pic...
I have the same sound board in a (former) MTH PS2 loco. There is a small blue/white dial on the board, just as Jeff posted. I personally don't really like the sound. It is very loud as-is. Unfortunately, I cannot reach the volume screw on the board without serious disassembly of everything else.
The volume control is in front of the cap.

I am close to pulling the trigger on an sd90. Can the engine sound horn and bell be made loud enough adjusting the pot or is it still weak? The demo videos i see of it sound weak just comparing to track noise of the model running.
I know this thread is a few months old, but I thought it may help some one else in their decision. I just got my new Williams Heritage SD90 today and it does look , at least on mine that the volume is set to max already on the sound board. Not real crazy about that. Sounds a lot better with the shell off, because as you know there are no vents in the SD90 shell to help with the sound. I was really considering looking towards True blast 2 plus boards as possible upgrades to get prime mover sounds.. I guess the hunt continues...

Jeff, you could consider relocating the speaker, is there space to drill some holes in the frame? How about the fuel tank?
Yeah, John still thinking about it, I didn't realize that the SD90 sounds more like a jet engine to me, so I probably won't get any deep prime mover sounds from that engine any way. One question, if I go with ERR Comander like you suggested, is that board basically an electronic eunit or does it have sounds Incorporated in board? Didn't want to have to buy EER plus additional sound board.
Thanks,
Jeff
