Sorry if I'm using the wrong forum, but the  

"MTH and PS2/PS3" didn't sound right - and "Lionel TMCC and Legacy" didn't sound right either.

 

So here goes.  I'm getting close to starting the wiring.  I want to run Legacy, DCS, and Conventional.

 

I don't have enough knowledge to figure out how to do the wiring myself.  Nothing I've read (and I've read many books on wiring) puts all three systems together.

 

I'm going to have a least 8 blocks (not including the many blocks that will be on the 200 square foot hump freight yard), and want to be able to control everything using mostly Conventional and DCS.

I have 4 Legacy engines, so I will operate them with my Legacy Remote System to take advantage of the extras Legacy engines have in them, but again, mostly Conventional and DCS.

 

Far Out Question - is there any way the wiring for the Conventional setup can go through the AIU's and TIU's ?

 

I respect comments that will come my way telling me to go ALL Legacy or ALL DCS, but I still want to bring back the fun of yanking on those throttles using the Conventional system along with coming in to the modern world with Legacy and DCS.

 

I'm ready for all comments and help.

You can use the variable outputs on the TIU to control tracks with conventional engines. Technically, you can operate command locomotives independently on the same tracks, BUT the top speed of the command locomotives will be limited by the voltage you're controlling the conventional locos with.

 

Also, under such an arrangement the command locos will stop and/or possibly misbehave when you cycle power to operate the conventional units' reverse units. It's best to keep command and conventional on separate loops, isolated at least by insulating pins on the center rails on any connecting tracks.

 

An AIU is an accessory controller, I don't believe it has anything to do with conventional trains.

 

As for your eight blocks, placing insulating pins on the center rail between power feeds will prevent DCS locos from getting overlapping signals coming from the multiple feeds, and the Legacy/TMCC signal can be fed to and coexist with any track carrying a DCS signal.
