How can I wire two n 153IR Lionel controllers to allow trains running in both directions to activate the same accessory in advance of passing. Example crossing guard activated by trains approaching from both directions.

Mike, if you look at page 13 of the 153IR manual it shows how to hook 2 detectors to a pair of crossing signals. In your case follow the wiring but exclude one signal.
