Wish Menards would make Black Single Dome tank cars

When you slap a specific name on a car, you exclude it from some of the market, unless it is something seen everywhere.  I am holding out for plain, black UTLX and

GATX cars., with the long rows of same seen in photos of refineries.   (I would want Skelly and Frontier Oil cars, and that is a limited market) Luckily, Lionel has taken care of Skelly.

I have been doing this with the old Sunoco tank cars, anytime I find one inexpensively at a show or at a local hobby shop used I pick them up so we can pull 8 or 9 tank cars, it looks really neat and replicates the train cars that are currently rolling through our town.

For our use, I don't mind that there are stickers, are not 100% prototypical, or high end finely detailed. My son likes to push box cars, and stick plastic army men into them. He has developed a love for trains because he has the opportunity to play with the stuff. I'm not really in a place to drop 80 dollars on a single box car or loaded cars that are in the new catalogs. When I save up a bit more I'm going to grab a few of the Menards cars just to add some newness to our set and if they came up with some tank cars for inexpensive, I'd buy them.

Aldovar, great idea. I have three or four old 40's scale sized single dome tank cars, all metal. They are in good shape but the decals are old and or missing. They aren't worth much as is so I think I'll strip them and paint them black. Don

You're welcome! If you do it, I'd love to see some pics! I was at the Medina show last winter, and they had 5 that were in rough shape for 12 bucks that I regret passing on now. :-(
