I still need to rework the sign and add the correct jail bars behind the Speedie guy. Also the entire red portion of the sign needs to be painted red. It will improve the authenticity of the model greatly.
I dont like the doors and windows and in time I will rework them also.
Erik,
Fantastic work, looks so life like, especially the B&W shots!
Joe
I am enjoying your thread and progress Erik. Keep it up

Erik the grade crossing looks terrific, what was used in there? Individual strips of wood I'm guessing?
Yeah Chris.. Thanks for the compliment. I did GOOF up on the wood planks..
This one on the rural side of the layout is correct.
Johnson reminds me to bevel the edges I sort of forgot.

Hey just look at it from 1 angle there... Regardless.....I love it.....
The April original conceptual drawing came out relatively close to the finalized project. I am happy for this years progress. With the new 110" radius coming, 2016 will be fun!
Now I am on to other plans.. I am changing things up! Johnson and I are adding more space due to my oversight on the McDonalds and I am going to as I originally thought retire the Berkshire Valley 1930's era service station to a 1940's/50's Sinclair service station.
This one I built for a client in 2007; I will start building another this next week. I have had 14 Berkshire Valley structure kits.. I just adore them.

Hay!
I've started work on the Mobil Service Station!
Berkshire Valley kits 818 and 819 1940's Service Station with the porcelain coated steel paneling.
I love these kits but laying all bull aside this one is my very favorite!
First coats of dead flat white Ace primer. Soon the Lacquer Appliance white top coat for the outside walls to simulate the porcelain coated steel panels. Hey it works really well!
A box of fun just awaits!
I have built 3 in Sinclair for clients and always wanted to do the Mobil Socony with the Pegasus; I'm excited!
These kits are just marvelous thank you Berkshire Valley! And the new owners please keep these fabulous kits alive they are the finest on the market.

I have had a lot of requests for who made all the vehicles..
I will do a list and photos. That would be a great idea.
Some I built and painted, most are built up hand built die cast. My favorite kits by far are by The Model Company of New Zealand. He sadly closed his business; I bought a lot of his cars including a fabulous 1/48 Pontiac kit! His Chevrolet Stake Truck is marvelous also.
Thanks for the request guys.

A little progress last night and this morning.
I always enjoy detailing old service stations. My car interest really comes out on projects like this.
Grand opening attire!
Until the next update, have a great day! I hope you guys enjoy this as much as I do.

This looks like a fun project. I think you are on your way to creating another beauty Erik.

You're having WAY too much fun there, Erik.

Trinkle Trains putting some final touches on the module edges. This view really shows how much depth can be achieved in a small space. I really like the highway barriers and the tree line followed by a long look down Railroad Avenue.

Great works of art Erik - could we convert my 746 of the 2525ws set to two rail????
Moving along with further detail work; the decals are only minutes old in these shots. Still wrinkled from the vinegar..

You use straight vinegar as a decal setting solution?
Does anyone make Amoco or American filling station decals or dry transfers? I have the kits but need the decals to do the correct brand that we dealt with as a child.
Thanks,
Ken
You guys do museum quality work--something to aspire to. Maybe when I retire someday........
Norm
Thank you Norm.. I probably should peruse a new career in museum model exhibits.
Now how is this little guy going to mount that new porcelain sign up there? And what's with the 30' long Xacto Knife!?

Erik: how are you adding the white lines and cross walks. They look great.

That is pretty amazing how much good detailing adds to such a narrow module. I need to study this for doing my layout! I'm still building. I probably will be for years to come.....
Nice work, looks really good
Thank you fellas.
I really like the Testors white decal ink jet paper. I cut the size I need and apply. I have also sprayed it with a yellow and it works perfect.
The decals are a very convincing technique.
I do not like the striping tape; way too thick and it curls up in time. Painting right to the surface is an interesting practice that can be uneven and it also can work if you want to take the time to mask. Brushing is out of question for me I can't keep steady enough to make a straight line. I am a sloppy painter.
The Mobil station is coming along nicely.

That gas station's coming along a treat, Erik.
Is that a Pontiac parked in there?
The red's a nice match.
I can't wait until my track is all down and I can start on some scenery.
Cheers
Don't forget the air hose across the drive that rings a bell inside the station when a car rolls over it.

What an interesting project you guys!
That 61 Impala looks like it has a fresh 'Fact O Bake' paint job...or was it 'Earl Schibe'?

I agree. BTW, the car is a 1961 Chevy Impala.

Ken,
I don't know. I am also curious my father Chuck Lindgren as a youth used to work at a "Standard All" station in the 1950's in Arnold's Park, Iowa. It was a strong interest to do a Standard/Amaco; like you there is only that set of decals for the 1930's era station that is a little early for 50's.
If you can find a decal set in another gauge, LBR Enterprises can up or down scale them to fit O scale models. Dave is very good and the decals are good quality. He has a lot of different samples on his website to choose from as well.
Butch
Thanks, Matt.
That was going to be my next guess.
