Would anyone else be interested in OGR's webmaster making the membership list searchable by region of residence?  If members see there are a substantial number of other members in close geographic proximity to each other, this might help spur the forming of an o gauge rr club in that area. Would like to hear from the webmaster whether such a search field feature could be added without a major overhaul of the entire OGR forum site?

I think this is a good idea.  We may have forum members who can't drive or they have a hard time getting out and they might be happy to see other forum who can visit them and maybe even help them with their layouts.  Just my 2 cents.  Killian

Well Bob, what if members had the opportunity to opt out such as they do now with their email address? Incidently, I'm sure you're aware the forum already hands out this information. When a forum member clicks on your icon they can see you reside in Virginia and your email address.

We have frequent posts asking folks to shout out the place they live, if someone wants to join in that's fine (I have in the past) but let's not just hand it over to someone.

I think it's best left to the individual to initiate.

There are internet apps that one could download and embed into the site itself and it will show where everyone came from via the data center closest to where they are logging in from.

However I prefer old fashioned ways of staying in touch. When buying or selling train stuff. Today's increasingly unstable society almost requires a greater level of Persec than ever before.

That is a shame, I remember a time several decades ago where everyone left the door unlocked and any of us kids had a safe haven a short run close by almost anywhere.

Drawing on what I know from my work around the USA, there are sections of the Nation that is ... simply uninhabited or sparsely so. Other sections work hard such as the Bakken in the Dakotas to worry too much about the hobby.

(And probably need to sleep on time off to rest up before the next push.)
