Thanks, David, for your additional input on the differences between PS and ERR upgrades and the advantages/disadvantages of both! You've contributed to a lively discussion! I look forward to hearing more about TruBlast sounds and how they might interface with the other systems that are available.

I did e mail Soundtraxx maker of the soon to be out True Blast Plus sound that's going to be in the up and coming Williams engines, about an A/C powered stand alone sound board that would use motor feedback for diesel revs or chuff rate because their sounds are only about 100 times better than anything MTH or Lionel have(I know and I'm not kidding) but so far I haven't heard back from them yet.
David
Let me see if I read this correctly. You're saying that the Soundtraxx sounds are 100 times better than the Lionel or MTH sounds? I'm not familiar with the Soundtraxx system, but I kind of find that hard to believe. I don't think I've ever heard, in O gauge, sounds better than RailSounds. I guess I'll have to give it a try at some point.
Allan,
Maybe 100 times is stretching it a little but the Tsunami line of decoders offer prototypical sound for each individual engine . If it's obtainable they use actual recordings of each engine they offer decoders for and use recordings of the whistles that were on those particular engines. MTh tries to do this somewhat but ERR has fallen by the wayside when it comes to steam sounds. You'll get chuff and a whistle with the ERR sound board but it invariably won't be the actual sounds of that particular engine.
I've asked Soundtraxx several times in the past for and AC powered board and their response at that time was that they are a DCC company which means DC only and were satisfied with supplying decoders to the lions share of the market(N and HO scale).
I was therefor very surprised when Bachmann announced they would be using Soundtraxx products in their engines. With the demise of Digital Dynamics and the acquisition of ERR by Lionel you really don't have any place in the after market to go for sound. Hopefully this will create some competition.
Here are a few sound bites from the TSU-750 series decoders by Soundtraxx for you to play with. Thier production decoders also have 16 bit sound and a built in 16 channel graphic equalizer so you can adjust the sounds to your liking.
I know these features won't be in the Williams version but these sound bites give you an idea of what they can bring to the table.
