Does anybody know the maximum amperage a z-4000 transformer is capable of putting out? For that matter....even though it's a different company, what is the total amperage a Lionel ZW-L is capable of, too? Trying to know how many 20 amp circuit breakers I need for many transformers.

Z4000s as well as all other modern transformers are UL limited to ten amps per handle. In this case its two ten amp channels. Any transformer under 200 watts will be capable of fewer amps.

The Z-4000 draws less than 5 amps fully loaded to its 22.5 amp output, so you can easily run 4 of them on a 20 amp circuit under normal operating circumstances. The ZW-L draws less than 8 amps fully loaded to its 35 amp output.
Thanks Rob! I appreciate the info!!! Transformers told me the output, but not what the draw was.
Transformers are fairly efficient. Electronic ones draw a bit more for the circuitry but you can calculate how much they draw from a receptacle by dividing watts by around 120, then add 10-20%.

Great stuff to know!! Thank you, too, Norton!!
