I have run across a used ZW-L on an auction site. But post C is shorter than the others and the case has a hairline crack at the C post. Should i bid on this or pass? It's listed as working. Can the post and case be repaired? I might be able to pick this up cheap.

It has been dropped hard to get that damage.
It would not get it.
There will always be another one, cheaper and in better shape.
Definitely sounds like it kissed the floor. I would pass too no telling what else may have happened to it.
I would think you could take it apart and epoxy the case. If the post is not broken off, it could be reset. It may be worth the gamble, but depends on the price and how handy you are.
Parts are worth something too if it is unrepairable.
I may pass on it, unless i can get it real cheap. Thanks for the advice every one who replied. I was bidding on another one but passed on it too. It went for 500.00. For a little more i could buy a new one.
I think I would pass on it myself.

I think that's what i am going to do, it's already up to over 100.00$ and who knows how it got broke and what else could be wrong. There is an old saying, stepping over dollars to pick up dimes and i think that applies to this transformer.
I found the one you are talking about. It is being sold by Trainz. They are reputable. They offer returns and they say it works. Everything else is intact. I would buy it for $500 or less. However, it will probably sell for more than that.

George, that's the one but if it goes that high i will pass as new ones can be found for 689.00. I did check Lionel's website and parts are not listed for the ZW-L at this time.
On my ZW-C, I replaced the top row of connectors with banana jacks. I could not do the bottom row because there wasn't enough room with the PH connectors there. That wouldn't be an issue on the ZW-L. You could replace both rows. It is the one thing I would change on the ZW-L.
