Mark,

These are really nice NP cars, just wish I (we) could buy one or two, especially for those who have small "round and round" layouts,

I know there were some cars previously I would like but holy smokes, eight is beyond my needs.

QUESTION:

If you bought two NP eight car sets, would the sequential numbers of first set be repeated again in second set?

My two cents.

rrman,

Individual boxcars can still be purchased. We just give a discounted rate for buying 8. Although you save $30 when buying 8, we still think $19.99 (regular price) is a heck of a deal!

As far as sequential numbering goes, we prefer to call them "uniquely numbered." We do not repeat numbers but it would be nearly impossible to keep them in sequence, so uniquely numbered is much more accurate.

This car looks great.  Quick clarification please, on your website, the car title or short description is "Northern Pacific Die-cast Boxcar", yet in the description the second sentence begins "This O-Gauge resin boxcar...".  Cay you please confirm the body of this is resin or die-cast? (I'm 99% sure is resin but if it is die-cast, it will change my order quantity).  Also, is this accurate in regards to scale? (Lionel Standard O or MTH Premier vs. O-27 or Railking).  thanks!!

Hi,

Yes see now that all cars will have one of a kind ID number.

And scrolled down to very bottom of ad and see it says to enter SKU number AND increase the quanity to 8.  So I can buy just one!  I think I need new glasses or re-learn reading comprehension.

Ironhorseman,

Our boxcars have a resin body with die cast undercarriage and metal trucks.

Well unless I am mis understanding terms, all of the Menards cars I bought appear to be like K-Line-like with steel underframe and metal trucks.  I can't speak to what the body shell is made of.  To me die cast under carriage would be a plastic or similar non metallic material.

Well if that were true, then postwar classics like the Berks, Hudsons, Turbines, and Adriatics would also be plastic.

Die casting is a metal casting process, using molten metal (predominantly zinc for our model trains) under high pressure injected into a mold.

Having said that, I actually wonder if the statement that the Menards box car frames being die cast is true.  I know the trucks are, but for the frames I was led to believe that they are made of stamped sheet metal, which is not the same thing.  Any Mendards boxcar owners care to chime in and clarify?

Ironhorseman,

To be more accurate, John is correct. Our boxcars have a resin body with a stamped steel undercarriage and die cast metal trucks.

See Mark clarified the car makeup, as I just came from my layout where a magnet stuck to the Menards Santa Fe, Wisconsin Central and Soo Line car underframes but didn't stick to any of my die cast steamers.  So unless Menards vendor changed processes for the new NP cars, I imagine underframes are painted steel.
