Lionel GP9B SuperBass Coupler Clearance Issue

I received my new Lionel AEC SuperBass GP9B (SKU# 2422089) today and I am having issues with the non-electro coupler uncoupling on curve sections. I am running on O42 ross/gargaves track but the unit is listed as supporting O31 track. After looking at the bottom, it appears the issue is the 'thumbtack' on the coupler is bumping into/under the pilot on curve sections causing it to uncouple. I added some photos showing the issue. Has anybody else experienced this issue or is this unit defective? If they all behave this way, has anyone devised any solutions to resolve the issue other than removing the pilot? Thank you in advance.
