I have a busy morning scheduled for tomorrow, so I’m going to do something different: I’m going to jump the gun by about 3 hours and start this thread on STEAMday Sunday Eve.

This is the place to share photos, videos and your comments about steam locomotives of all kinds. Just make sure to only post photos and videos you have taken or those in which you have obtained the written permission of the owner to share with us.

The video below shows a scale, highly detailed LionChief Plus Erie Camelback steamer pulling scale Atlas and MTH reefers and boxcars and a scale Lionel Erie caboose. The Camelback has excellent smoke, sounds and speed control and I’m running it using a dedicated remote:

Now, let’s fill our basements and attics with lots of steam.

My steam engine for this Sunday 12-01-2024 is New York Central 0-4-0 #901 – an MTH Premier model (20-3261-1, MSRP $599.95) with PS2 delivered in 2007.

MTH describes this model as a Pennsylvania A5s with its Belpaire firebox replaced by a standard radial firebox. The builder’s plate on the smokebox of the New York Central version even says “Juniata Shops” – not a manufacturer from which the NYC would have bought locomotives.

I consulted Steam Locomotives of the New York Central Lines by W.D. Edson and H.L. Vail Jr. but found no reference to a superheated 0-4-0 switcher like this model. The NYC was buying more powerful 0-6-0 steamers by 1900 and began superheating them around 1915. So, although the model is not prototypical, it’s a good size for the O-36 inner loop on my 12’-by-8’ model railroad and its narrow rock cut.

This little engine, the O-36 loop, and the narrow rock cut remind me of the HO layout I had when I was about twelve years of age...

Great start Arnold, Happy Steam Eve Sunday.
Here is my Lionel Legacy Consolidation in New Hope & Ivy livery as custom ordered by METCA.  Number 40 is on the point of a New Hope & Ivyland Fall excursion; in my customized passenger cars.

Here are a few meets of the NH&I meeting the massive PRR 2-10-4 on the way out of town.
