I bought a 1122 switch on eBay that had no lantern however I had an extra so I did not consider that to be a problem (or so I thought).

I inserted my spare into the socket and it fit properly but when rotated manually  it did not move the shuttle back and forth like the lanterns in my other switches do. It basically just spun around in the hole.

I understand there were two versions, the 123 and the later 177, which is the type I use in all my other switches.

My question is, is the new to me switch possibly set up to accommodate the earlier 123? Or should the 177 work in all 1122 switches?  I noticed that the socket appears to have a different design than the sockets on my other switches so is it a possibility that I need a 123 instead of a 177?

Easy way to.spot.the.early.is the long straight thru rail has a gap for antiderail. The later version has a solid long rail; antiderail triggering is now on the short inside rails.

I have a few of the early ones with the later lens and they do not work real well.with them imo.

The lens cover's bottom flange rubs enough for them to stop the points from "snapping" sometimes. And a lot of light escapes the  flange gap when I boost the height high enough to not rub..... so I don't use a bulb
