This is the last of the three locomotives I picked up at the NYE 2021 Cabin Fever MTH warehouse auction. I won a Premier CNW E4 Hudson https://ogrforum.com/...rthwestern-e4-hudson, a Premier SP GS4 locomotive/tender shells https://ogrforum.com/...c/169374064469124643 and this ATSF 5011 class Texas. The Texas was unpainted, missing some detail parts (some were in the box), had no motor or driveline, and no wiring harness. Here's how it looked out of the box.

My parts bins yielded the missing detail parts (including the smokebox front), a worm shaft, drive shaft dog bone, motor mount, 50mm flywheel, and a 12V 9234 Pittman with rare earth magnets and 6mm ball bearings. Once the chassis was assembled first order of business was adding missing detail parts and guides so I could add bell and whistle pull cords.

Next I painted and decaled the locomotive over the summer. I used SEM automotive paints, trim black and 1K matt clear. Decals are Microscale. I used road number 5012, because the lighted number boards had that number and I was too lazy to change it.

This locomotive got a standard PS3 steam upgrade kit. I built a harness in the locomotive for all LED lights and wired them to the headlight circuit. Tender got a LED reverse light and twin 50mm Visaton speakers.

Finished locomotive. If you've ever wanted a locomotive "kit" you could assemble here's what you're in for.

Is that pretty good quality paint? I ask because it looks absolutely factory from the photos there and looks like it could have come that way. Neat project and fantastic result!

Yup. The SEM paint is very good quality. More expensive than model paint but it's much more durable and gives a better finish, since it's automotive paint. One word of warning: it's high VOC and has strong vapors. Only spray it outside or in a automotive spray booth. Your airbrush booth won't cut it.
