Afternoon guys and gals:

I recently won what I call a "lucky dip" box of parts on a Stout Auction.

Among many of the items were two relatively new Lionchief remote controllers.

Are these remotes paired to a specific Lionel locomotive, or can they be used for running other trains like my MTH RailKing locos???

I don't have many Lionel trains, and the ones I do have are all transformer controlled, with only horn/whistle and bell functions.

Just asking.

Hi Peter,  The Lionel Universal Remote will control any version of LionChief and newer Legacy Bluetooth equipped locomotives.  Unfortunately it controls neither Conventional nor DCS.

Note that for Legacy control of BT locos, only basic functions are supported: speed, direction, horn/bell, some announcements and electro-couplers.

The universal remote will not do electro-couplers on Legacy. At least mine won't

Interesting, according to some Bluetooth Legacy Manuals, the LionChief App will control their electrocouplers.  Strange that the remote wouldn't.  I wonder if maybe you have an older firmware of if it's just a quirk with the App vs. Universal Remote.

I have three Universal remotes and they all have the latest upgrades. I mainly run LC+ but I also have three Legacy engines.

You know what they say about saying never... Sooner or later you're going to find an irresistible modern Lionel locomotive

Those retail for about 1150 Czech Koruna (since you always do a currency conversion ) - https://www.trainworld.com/lio...mote-controller.html.  (If the link doesn't work, search for Lionel universal remote.)

Although I'm in the never-say-never camp, if you're really sure - toss them in your luggage on your next trip to the US and give them to one of the train guys that you'll be visiting.  They're small, and someone can use them.

Sorry gunrunnerjohn:

We were caught in the middle of a cyclone (Alfred) - you guys call them a hurricane- as it passed over us, and we lost power for the best part of Saturday, therefore no laptop, no internet connection, no nothing!!

Power was restored this morning (Sunday)

I will sent the E-mail later today after I get the gum tree forest out of my swimming pool....leaves and branches everywhere!!!!
