Two that come to mind that may have what you need or they can direct to a source. ......Paul
S & W parts supply
Brasseur Electric trains
NWSL might be worth a shot if those two don't pan out your gold.
Hennings?
Can you tell us what happened to the old gear? I have not heard of one of these gears failing. Can you provide a description of the gear, face width, bore, no. of teeth and OD? To the list of places that might have the gear I would add Jeff Kane, The Train Tender. I think the gear you are looking for is Lionel part number 726-29.
My father and I have C&D Train Repair. We have some parts for 46 berks. If you want to send me a message I can see if we have the gear you need.
I need the spur gear that goes on the motor shaft...not on the worm shaft.
I have a motor that is complete and functional with the proper machined slot cut on the mount for a 46 Berkshire...but it had a gear for a turbine. The Berkshire gear is smaller...I have a Berkshire I've been piecing together over time...and I need the gear...and I have a running engine.
The gear goes on the armature shaft...
Did you follow up with Berkshirelover726? The motor gears for the 46 turbine and berkshire are difficult to find. I've looked and never had any luck.
One of the guys on here said it was a 726-029...I got a couple coming...they were cheap enough to take a chance...so we'll see.
Won't know for sure til they get here..probably this weekend.
I noticed something else about this motor...which makes me wonder...
I've had this motor assembled in two different configuration with two different armatures and 2 different fields...with no gear the end play is not controlled...but it seems to be either speed or temperature related...but at higher voltages the motor will start, run, and then stop...sit about a second...then repeat that cycle.
It's an interesting thing...and at this point I'm thinking the armature is just bouncing and breaking contact...but the engine completely stops before it restarts rather than being intermittent...if that makes sense
Interesting things happen when you tinker...
Chuck, those do look like the motor pinion gears, but I have never seen them in brass. Do you know there story? Are they reproduction gears? Thanks.

I have an armature for one of those motors that has the spline for the gear cut in the wrong position. occasionally the misplaced spline would catch in the bearing.
My armature came in a lot from Madison Hardware (Detroit). They were selling assorted armatures by the pound. I think the lots were 20 pounds each. Most of the armatures had some sort of defect. Many were repairable / usable. Others not. Some were new, others used. (So anybody buying replacement armatures needs to be careful).
On another occasion Madison Hardware (Detroit) did the same thing with locomotive wheels.
David, they are original bronze. I know they came from MH.
The 46 has the dull worm gear. If you have a part number I can look it up and see what it is exactly you need if you like.
The part # is 726-29 armature pinion gear .
We have them. How many would you like?
Are they any different that the picture I posted?
No. They are the same gear looks like. It's what comes up in our parts inventory under 726-29.
That is is correct #. The gear that it mates to, the drive gear on the worm shaft is about 2 1/2 x's it's size.
Yes. You need the gear directly off the motor shaft? That's what I'm seeing is a 726-29
