I finally quit procrastinating and hemming and hawing and reading manuals and looking at pictures and overthinking and dove in to upgrade this Wabash FT to TMCC and Railsounds today. Put in a Cruise Commander and F3 Railsounds. It really was a pretty easy job and a lot of fun. Works great and sounds great. I installed an electrocoupler in the rear only because they have a much longer shank than the originals and it wouldn't look right in the front which won't be used anyway. I'm not sure if it looks right in the back either. It's a tad too long and sags a bit. Checking with Boxcar Bill if they make an electrocoupler with a shorter shank. This was a fun project and definitely satisfying. Now I'm going to gear her down to 32 speed steps ( can't stand operating in 100) and give her a good run. Then I'll change it back to 100 and give her back to her owner. Alas, we soon will be seperated, but she will always have a special place in my heart, because she was my 1st.

They come in a variety of sizes, so you can have a shorter one on that locomotive if you desire. You could also use a short one on the front.

Cool. If I can get the shorter couplers, I'll do both of course. Thanks. I'm not sure what kind of scale that is you use (in tenths?), but when I measure them against each other on the screen, it looks like the shorter one is 3/10 " (?) less, or a third on an inch (? again). That'll work!
I believe the short one is 1.75", then 2.0", then 2.5". Don't know if there's any shorter or longer ones, but these are all I've ever needed.
The short one actually measures 1.7", it's the MTH one. I also have Lionel ones that are also that size, these just happened to be in the junkbox and easy to grab.
The rear coupler is normally the dummy to attach the second engine, which probably accounts for why it looks so long.
Boxcar Bill has some 1.54" long, which match what is on the locomotive. I'm going to order a pair along with some other parts for other projects. Cool little engine, and the F3 sounds are great. Here she is pulling my NYC streamliners, which is what she came with in Wabash livery as part of the Bluebird Special set. Should look great with the matching cars.
I could attach the lower headlight to the strobe port and make it a mars light effect, it's one wire connection away from doing so, but in this case it may be too much information to the end user. Speaking of lights, it's a little dim in that dome car. Another job opportunity. This was a fun and easy project.

I thought there might be shorter ones, but I haven't actually seen them. I may have to get a couple myself.
