No, the trick is to mount the armature that carries the front coupler to the lead truck instead of the pilot beam, and give it enough clearance to turn without fouling the pilot.  It won't look great under close inspection but it will work for doubleheading.  Obviously you'd want to make it easily removable.

The two I was looking at I decided to pass on.

The asking price was simply too rich, one could buy a mint Duplex or Q class for a little less to do the same job.

I cannot stop thinking this simple question though.

Is it more performance to have two K4's or one large Duplex/Q type engine? I don't know anyone who has sufficient space and resources to even have a sort of contest on the layout to see which is better. The goals I had was to answer the following.

Is the K4's better on curve radius and pull more passenger cars easily or is the single large engine economical price wise.

Finally as a parting shot towards those manufacturers of engines, those front pilots truly need to have some kind of decent coupler options if not already a proper working electro.

As a side, I saw a Ds class engine PS3 on ebay with scale wheels and a option to mount either a Kadee or electros on the tender. Nothing was said about the front. However the scale wheels will sink too far into my real trax switches anyway.

Sorry for the rambling, it's hard to stay on topic.
