Hi all, purchased this engine thinking it had been upgraded to PS2, at least that was the way that it was presented and advertised.

When I got it, I put it on the track and realize that it is indeed still PS1. Pop the tender and still has the original white battery in it. I replaced it with a new battery, and ran it. Engine runs great, sounds work, markers and everything work correctly as well as the smoke.

I decided to keep the engine, as by the time I would have paid shipping and packed it up and sent it back.. it almost seemed more hassle than it was worth.

So,
1. Is it worth upgrading to PS3/PS2 or just keep it as is?
2. Who does it and what is the cost?
2A. Is there any value in the PS1 boards if someone does the upgrade?

Thanks for any information

If it runs well as a PS1 locomotive, I don't see any reason to upgrade it until it fails.  I have several PS1 locomotives that run just fine and sometimes it's just nice to have a locomotive that runs without any programing required.  Just my opinion.  There are some real bargains on decent MTH locomotives because everyone is so afraid of PS1.

Just my opinion.  I know you'll get lots of different ones on a thread like this.

Thank you all for the replies and opinions. We do run a lot of conventional on our layout, but it is nice handing my little son a remote and letting him him blow the whistle and control it.

I do have another PS1 that we run, Railking Wabash and that has been a good engine for us. It has the BCR and runs great and has been pretty bullet proof.

This one does run smooth and sounds good, I just figure DCS and PS3 gives me more options

I guess it is going to come down to the price of it and what it runs.

Look for an e-mail @ggg

Do you have intentions on running with DCS or Legacy?  If yes, make the change.  I've done it on 2 engines and have been happy with them running with the new boys.  Just make sure you have room inn the boiler on the engine to mount the tach reader and other wires.  I had a Railking Texas 4-4-0 and found the boiler did not have room for the reader and the wire harness.  I think you have room with what you show in your picture.
