During the postwar years Lionel to the best of my knowledge made three cataloged sets with this engine. My question is did they ever pack the variation where the coloring on the lettering was reversed (can't remember if it's called the reverse lettering or the reverse coloring variation) in these sets? Or were they only offered as seperate sale? Thank you for any info.

Great question Bill. I do not know the answer but will look forward to see what others have to say. I would speculate, as with other color variations, when time to pack sets Lionel many times just put in the set a car that was supposed to be in it and did not notice a slight color variation. I have always thought that some of these color variations were "Oh no I thought it was supposed to be white over black today, I painted or decaled black over white, oh well who cares these are just toys"
