I started a new thread since my original one disappeared.  It took a while but after getting 4 new rod screws and the proper rod spacers, I discovered the wheels were not properly installed or quartered.  When you remove the armature the front and rear wheels can also turn independently so you have to really be careful getting the wheels quartered. It took at least three tries and with the extremely long bosses on the rear wheels, I could not use my press for those.  Lots of hand work and close 'looking' to line them up.

However, it turned out well and it is a great runner.  As I had said the motor and the e unit are in excellent condition.  Even the headlight bulb was good!

You can see on this one the domes/smoke stack are copper as I polished off some of the chrome, the copper is starting to show through

As you can see there are a lot of paint nicks and chips but it looks okay overall for a runner.  It cleaned up nicely.  The missing paint is why I was considering repainting it but took everyone's advice and just cleaned it up good.

I only broke one of the tabs putting it back together but I certainly will not be taking it apart again! The tabs would not take another 'bending'.

Now all I need is a tender!

I also want to thank Jeff at The Train Tender for always supplying parts at reasonable prices and quickly!!  The delay in getting this job done was mine not his!

pennsydave,

I will try to dig out some pictures for you of the tender Dave, at Bill & Walts reworked for me to go with my 259E, also purchase some the original lionel Gun metal Gray touch up paint, and touch up your Gray engine, if you can not find it, I do believe Dave over at Bill & Walts in White Oak, Pa still has some of it.  You can find Bill & Walts on line.  After you touch up the scratches your Gun Metal Gray 259E will look 100% better.

Dave unfortunately these are the closest pictures I have for you right now, will have to take some closer ones for you some time.

The 259E should be a good engine. Maybe a 265T or 265W tender will match your engine.

I have a 249E with 2225T tender and it still runs after all these years, but needs some work. The steam chests are missing and most of the side rods are missing and I hope to replace these parts one day some.

Also my 224E still runs good as well and has all it's parts, except that I had to replace the E unit as it came apart on me.
