I was excited to get the new PS3 re-issue of the Missouri Pacific Heritage SD70ACe from MTH last nite. There have been gobs of SD70ACe's in Premier PS3 from MTH so far, so a full review would be redundant.
Just a few points:
1) The DCC volume control has changed. Unlike my other PS3 locos, when you hit the volume button (F6?), the volume goes from full down to zero gradually over a few seconds. Hit it again and it climbs back from off to full volume over a few seconds. Hitting F6 on the way down or up will freeze the volume at that point. This is a HUGE improvement over the old way, where the volume went from full to off, and then you had to hit it dozens more times to get an intermediate volume.
2) The snowplow seems to be correctly sized and doesn't interfere too much when you use the mid-length shaft Kadee couplers.
3) The volume overall is more than adequate and seems just as loud as a Lionel legacy ES44AC. (I had one for a brief time last year).
4) The loco came in a standard purple Premier Box. I wanted it to come in the yellow Heritage box like my PS2 heritage's did. Too bad...
All in all, I was pleased with this unit. I wish MTH would re-issue the WP and SP heritages ASAP for those of us running 2-rail and PS3. This and the red Katy are my two favorites of the 6 UP heritage units.
(BTW, thanks to forum sponsor Norm for getting this to me quickly with great service. Thanks, Norm!)
