I admit that I don't quite follow your instructions, so I'll wait until you post photos of in-process/finished project. I guess I'm lucky as the wife is okay with the trains, it's just my bank account isn't, so that's why I have "limited" layout.
Sounds like a great idea, I too am looking forward to some photos. Nick
Something like my test track?
It exists as a "get something running" while awaiting completion of my basement loop. It be came my de-facto layout after the increasing amount of clutter (not mine) in the basement suspended construction.

You forgot to mention where the bed will be in the layout room. You'll be using it.
Chipset,
I like the way you are thinking. I am just crowded out in a small house with my wife and daughter who both have a lot of stuff. In fact, my desk is now out in a stuffed full two car garage. I have a few tools and boxes, but that's it. I have one more 11 foot wall of shelving to finish in the tiny family room to have a loop near the ceiling. It was my wife's suggestion, but working above doors in a basement room that is only 7' 6" high is a literal pain in the neck. Almost as bad as crawling under a too low layout. I will look forward to see how your ideas develop.
Another train that shows more of the test track, running in front of the living-room window and behind the couch (passage in front of the room entrance is accomplished via a lift-out module). It can be rather relaxing to watch a train while stretched out on the couch (especially if it's a train pulled by the BB-1 electrics) with a remote. Haven't fallen asleep doing it yet though.
I also fixed the embedded video in my earlier post.

RailRide,
That looks like a very good solution! The train just hums along. I especially like the view of the train going past the chrome tank car, with the receding reflectio.
Thank you!
