I bought a 342 culvert loader with the vibrating motor. It works fine with only the bottom gear. As soon as I put the top gear on it binds up . I have cleaned the post and the inside of the gear. I put a drop of oil on both gears. I also shortened the string slightly. The bottom gear has 2 wrappings of string around it not one. Does that make a difference? Any ideas on how to get it running?

The original instructions indicate that tightening the nut on the roof can cause the motor to slow down or stop. Not sure if this helps.
Thanks Dan
I have the roof off with the gears exposed
The other thing to look at would be the gear motion. Does it turn without wobbling ? It may be binding because the shaft it rides on is not true. I'm looking at the exploded diagram in my K-Line bible and other than the shaft being loose the only other thing I can see would be if the gear is rubbing on the drive pulley. Oh, are the teeth on the gear all perfect ? Is there any dirt or harden grease in them ? No lubrication should be used on the teeth anyway.
Thanks Dan, I may try putting a small shim under the larger gear to prevent it from rubbing on the drive gear.
