I'm contemplating picking up a 384e steam engine for my village layout. Im thinking about just going with a PS2 version vice the PS3 version due to the issues that have been discussed with the tether. Are these issues old news? Thoughts?

I would go with the PS2 since besides the tether issue the sounds are louder and the firebox glow is brighter and looks better to me.

Let me put it this way, I have not purchased a P3 engine yet. My P2 stuff runs like a million bucks, with zero problems, especially the Tin Plate 263E and the GG1.

If your 'village layout' has tight curves do NOT get a PS3 version.
I have a PS3 steam engine from the tin-plate collection series and it won't handle anything less that 42" curves, and it's a very little engine.
I also have a PS3 'O' version of the Baby Blue Comet. It will handle some 31" curves and switches but not all for some reason. My friend has the PS2 version and it EASILY handles 27" curves and switches.
