I pulled my 3rd Rail B&O Q4b out to run it after a few months of sitting on a shelf. The engine ran perfectly fine for a minute or two in reverse, then changed direction to forward and the problem began: The engine began making a "clicking" noise, jerking with each click, and the speed control seemed to fail, in forward the first speed step is now closer to 12th speed step, in reverse the engine clicks and jerks, with the first speed step now closer to a normal 6th speed step.

This is the only 3rd Rail engine in my collection, as well as the only TMCC engine, so I am definitely no expert on the model's internal workings.

Any help is much appreciated!

There might be a pdf of the flywheel stripes you can print out somewhere in the TMCC forum stickie topic. Print it out on sticker paper.

Since it’s an EOB system, you could also disable the cruise and run it like that in the meantime. I can’t remember if this engine used the cam switches for the chuff or the flywheel tape. If the chuffs are messed up, it’s the tape.
