I fear I am in the minority here but here goes.  I am a big N de M fan and that means I do a lot of custom painting.  My skills are limited and painting an engine in the scheme below would be out of my league.  Scott Mann would be able to make this N de M F3 IF there are a total of 10 customers willing to purchase it.

So, are there 9 other N de M fans out there as eager to purchase this engine as I am?

that doesn't really look that hard to paint yourself. Make a mask out of styrene with the curve between the red and black to ensure both sides are the same. lay your tape out on a piece of glass and use your template. Paint the yellow 1st of course and then mask that off. lots of masking for the different colors but really not that hard.

It stands for Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México or in English National of Mexico.  It was one of the government owned railroad of Mexico starting in 1938.  A wonderful history as a lot of US equipment migrated south and they kept them running.  They also had new equipment including the second smallest Northerns built which they called Niagaras.  Their diesel shops came up with lots of creations too to keep locomotives running.  Lots of ingenuity going on.

Hey LOS, I might be able to figure out the masking but creating the decals would be another hurdle.  I printed decals for this caboose, but I can print white letters...

JTRAIN, if you are serious about preordering a set in the as delivered paint scheme I am down with that.  I would love to have ANY N de M F units!!!

Everyone,

New here and also a big N de M fan. Done some custom work before and currently have some C420s and FA2s in progress.

Looking for a source for "O" decals (N de M, SP Black Widow, hoods & cabs).

Is there an N de M 'group I could join?

Have you tried eBay for decals? There is a seller ("K4-Decals" I believe) who has a large selection of decals - maybe he has some NdeM. They have been made - see below - but they are rare.

I painted/lettered the FA2 and the Weaver caboose from photos. I had to fake my masking on the very top of the FA as I had no photo of a roof.

I don't have any photos yet, but I also did a Lionel Light Mountain in NdeM; they had some similar locos. Oddly, I have 3 NdeM locos (one a Lionel Centipede), but not a single Canadian loco. Mexican motive power was interesting. Some think it was all "US used" - nowhere near the truth. They had their own Hudsons, for example.

I am a fan of the N de M, but I collect way too much in other roads!  The 3rd Rail N de M original scheme was fabulous in the first run.  Wish I had been able to swing one of those.

As to minimum numbers for a paint scheme to go, it does vary.  Sometimes smaller runs work well to round out a complete run of all road names during any production cycle.

If it weren't for the number of 3rd Rail locomotives and cars I have on order now, I'd join in and get a pair.  Might be interesting pulling my "Really Southwest Limited".  Chicago to Los Angeles via Hermosillo.

Interestingly, the NdeM Hudsons were called Niagras in Mexico and where the lightest of the class built. Any of the rebuilds out of the San Luis Potosi shops were quite genius and they managed to keep the PAs running longer than any US railroad.

The current 3rd Rail F3 offering has a NDM. Reservations are now closed but taking “standby” (backup) orders. They are in production mode. Perhaps Scott can squeeze one more in ?  Email him If you have Any interest in the offered paint scheme.

Just saying....

Cheers

Bringing back an old thread here, but I am a SoCal fan of the N de M and would love to repaint an MPC-era 027 Alco, GP7 or F3 for my 027 door layout. Would love to do some matching cars to go along with it (boxcar and caboose at least). When I can afford it, I’d add myself to that reservation list if it comes back around again!

Well … sorry you missed out but 3rd Rail has now done a NDM F 3 in 2 runs of F offerings. These saw some fans jump in in conjunction with the Texas Eagle MP T&P passenger car offerings. The Eagle continued into Mexico as the Aztec Eagle at Laredo - Nuevo Laredo. It is a very nice model.

GGD also did a NDM 10-6 as an “extra” to the MP T&P Texas Eagle. This car could be seen between Laredo and St Louis on the MP main - quite a contrast.

Regrettably, a NDM 10-5 did not get made. Email Scott at 3rd Rail or GGD that you would like to see it done. Scotts overdue for another run of heavyweights too !!! Some NDM cars should reserve well. For sure, They would be good additions for an Aztec Eagle consist.
These models need O54 track to run. O72 even better.
Cheers 😉
