I have a 3rd Rail RDC1 with TMCC and Railsounds.
The engine runs fine in conventional mode.
When I power it up in with the TMCC command base connected and turned on, it does not recognize the TMCC signal nor will it do a Reset.
I have checked the antenna connection and it appears to be sound.
I suspect that the R2LC board has a problem. Does that make sense? Where can I get a new one?

Pull the R2LC board and reseat it. If you have no luck, call Lionel and get a new one. I have 2 of those cars and they perform very well in TMCC.
are you trying to run it in the legacy mode, it should be in the tmcc or cab one mode.

ironlake2 makes a good point. If you are using Legacy it may need to be in Cab-1 mode. If the RDC is set to 128 speed steps it will not respond either Legacy mode or TMCC mode.

Before going further, I checked to see if the body/antenna was electrically connected to ground. It was. So I started looking for where the ground wires were touching the chassis (which should be insulated since both wheels are insulated and connected by wipers to ground.) After much disconnecting and testing with a continuity tester, I traced the problem to the cable connecting the two trucks to the mother board. Apparently the brass tie down wires that hold this cable in place had worked their way through the ground insulation. I could not find the actual fault. Wrapping the cable in electricians tape and then reassembling did the trick.
Now it works like a charm--till next time!
Good job. Anytime an antenna finds ground, it cannot be programmed or communicated with.
