😑😑😑Another Campaign that is pushed out to somewhere in the future 😖😖😖 Can the 5-6 molds be modified for the differences ??? That would be extremely advantageous (less $) as fewer roads bought the 3-4s. This means smaller audience to buy and that translates to lower #s for the run.
E3's, E4's and E6's were essentially the same externally. The only thing the E4 had externally the 3's and 6's didn't have externally was the retractable nose door. Of course, the E5 had the stainless steel fluting, letterboard and smaller side windows.

Put in a reservation for a 3 rail "Demo"! Hope it gets done!!

I know about the door on the E4. Jonathan commented earlier in thread about roof details differing. Did I misunderstand ?
Pictures/references just don’t focus on roof details but ……What I can see ….. 1) 3rd Rail E6 pic shows most roof details 2) Key Models pic “Early E” has less details in same area as 1 but numbered as E6 #7002. I wonder if numbering incorrect and is really E3 #7000
3) zoom of E3 #7000 in St. Louis - blurry but looks like details match #2
photos in reverse order. Zoom went in small - don’t know why. I don’t know if this is accurate. These are just my observations. 🤔
Feedback will be interesting. 🙂
Cheers !!!

They make great looking trains with those raised areas running the length of the cars.

The roof vents on the E3/E4 are different than the E6. The E6 share the style of venting with the E7.

I don't even model the CB&Q but if 9911A was offered I'd probably order it, especially with the black nose stripes.
Do we know if CBQ 5 red version will include later details, brow grabs, nose grabs?
@Alco244 posted:Do we know if CBQ 5 red version will include later details, brow grabs, nose grabs?
Yes, as per prototype (CB&Q late maintenance grab irons).
@SANTIAGOP23 & Scott Mann @sdmann
The 3rd Rail website still does not provide many details about the CB&Q E5 A & B units.
I already have E5A #9915A Silver CARRIER in Black stripes and E5B 9910B Silver POWER from 3rd Rail’s 1st run of the E5 models.
From the 2nd Run, I have an E5A with Black stripes, an E5A with Red stripes, and another E5B in order.
I need to know what specific units are offered so that I can personally choose my road numbers & SILVER names.
Ideally, I want an E5A #9910A Silver SPEED to match my Run 1 E5B #9910B Silver POWER. That is how those 2 prototypical units were delivered from EMD to CB&Q.
I also want a set of E5A #9911A Silver PILOT & E5B #9911B Silver MATE
Please provide an update on the CB&Q E5 models.
BLACK STRIPE Versions
What are the available SILVER Names ?
What are the available road numbers ?
Are the truck skirts included with the black versions ?
RED STRIPE Versions
What are the available SILVER Names ?
What are the available road numbers ?
If the trucks skirts are not included with the red version, can the truck skirts be purchased as separate items ?
Any other details that are not mentioned here ?
Thanks in advance !!!
@SANTIAGOP23 & Scott @sdmann
I just rechecked the 3RD Rail website.
The only details are the BLACK & RED nose versions with no clarity on what exactly that means.
I like the photo of the E5A #9910A Silver SPEED. So with Silver Speed in your advertisement, can we customers justifiably rely on that road number & silver name being offered ?
Please update us with the E5 details for both BLACK & RED versions.
Thanks in advance !!!

Cheers !!!
For me, I set up an on-line savings account and do a "sweep in" prior to the next paycheck. This way by the time the item arrives, I have full payment in hand! No cc debt for this stuff anymore!
Right now I have enough for the slumber and working my way towards the p42's and the superliner 1's and finally [if not cancelled] the second run of the Broadway Ltd!

Scott Mann, Santiago, Jonathon, & 3RD Rail Team:
Please see attached table of road numbers & Silver NAMES for CB&Q E5A & E5B diesel locomotives.
As you can see, there are only 4 prototypical Silver NAMES for Phase II E5A locomotives:
Silver ARROW #9914-A CB&Q
Silver SWIFT #9914-B CB&Q
Silver CARRIER #9915-A CB&Q
Silver CLIPPER #9915-B CB&Q
All of these Silver NAMES (with associated road numbers) were previously used in 3RD Rail's Run 1 of your E5A models.
Although there are a few prototypical differences between the Phase I & Phase II E5A units, they are nearly identical for all practical purposes. Most O-gauge modelers won't be able to tell the difference. Those who can tell the difference will gladly overlook the differences.
Prototype E5A Silver Pilot #9911-A is a Phase I E5A and is the only E5 still in existence. All of the E5B & Phase II E5As were scrapped.
O-gauge CB&Q fans will LOVE 3RD Rail for producing the Silver Pilot even with the Phase II tooling.
So please produce the following in your Run 2 E5A:
Silver PILOT #9911-A CB&Q
Silver SPEED #9910-A CB&Q
These will be fresh offerings in 3-rail O-gauge, never before available. A FIRST for 3RD Rail. You will all be HEROS to O-gauge Zephyr fans !!!
Also, the inclusion of one of your Run 1 E5A models with the Silver SPEED name & #9910-A road number implies that 3RD Rail is offering this as an option. Your website & Ads have no disclaimers to the contrary.
The other Phase I E5A names are:
Silver BULLET #9909 CB&Q
Silver METEOR #9912-A CB&Q
Silver WINGS #9913 CB&Q
Silver RACER #9950-A C&S
Silver CHIEF #9980-A FW&D
Thanks in advance !!!

Here are my photos of the number board & name boards from E5A Silver PILOT #9911-A at Illinois Railway Museum on 09/18/2016.
Please see my separate post & thread for more photos of Silver PILOT & the Nebraska Zephyr titled:
"CB&Q E5A #9911A Silver PILOT 09/18/2022"
Thanks in advance !!!
I have my E5AB set ordered already. If I could get every wish fulfilled the units would come as FW&D 9980A Silver Chief and 9980B Silver Warrior (inspiring names, eh?) and they would additionally wear the small zephyr lettering TEXAS ZEPHYR like the prototype. But I ain't complaining if they do not.
Hi @Rob Leese
I agree with you that FW&D’s names Silver CHIEF & Silver WARRIOR are wonderful E5 names which evoke imagery of “Everywhere West”.
Although TZ decals in O scale are not commercially available, Microscale does have an HO set of CB&Q E5 decals with all of the names & numbers and the Texas Zephyr lettering (set 87-581).
Microscale also makes decal paper for use with laser printers.
So if you are decal inclined, you could make an enlarged copy of the HO decals onto decal paper .
(1/48) / (1/87) = (87/48) = 1.81 Scale Factor
I am an out-of-the-Box guy and have no direct experience with application of decals onto models. I would probably damage my model in the process & end up with a Frankenstein’s E5 !!! Silver MONSTER !!!
