Light works but will not rotate, any suggestions?

Are you talking about the PW 394 or 494? If so, the 394 beacon uses a special lamp (461) that creates heat which then rotates the assembly round and round. This is not instantaneous and could take a few minutes to warm up and operate. If the 494, often the rubber feet deteriorate and do not move with the action of the vibrating motor. You can get replacement driving washer with feet as well as other parts of the assembly. Make sure the feet are pointing down.

It seems that the Lionel lighthouses crap out quite quickly. Our club unit died really fast. Club member and forum member Eddiem replaced the light with some flashers. He was going to write an article.

Joe: I don't own your unit anymore as I sold mine due to lack of space on my down-sized layout. If I remember correctly, the motor that rotates it is in the base and drives a shaft that comes into the bottom of the light tower. You may want to remove the bottom cover(s) and take a look in there. Could be a broken wire, etc.
Also, isn't there an "on-off" switch external on the base as well. You may want to check for that as well. Good luck.

Did EddieM put some kind of flasher unit in line to the light? I'll be going to the Big "E" show next month
and I'll look for something there.

Yes, but not sure what. Ed may update here. Send me an email and maybe Ed can fill you in.
In case it's the lighthouse where the beacon is driven by a motor in the base the shaft could be blocked by a friction bearing in the additional cover of the gearing box. To remedy this blocking the lighthouse must be dismantled and removed from the base in order to get access to the gearing box. Then the shaft and the additional cover with the bearing can be removed to enter in the gearing box. Then you can test the motor.
I had to repair that type of lighthouse several times, I assume ,with time of operation the movement of the rotating shaft in the bearing will change the plastic surface towards more friction and then block the rotation. At the end I let the additional cover with the shaft bearing outside. It works.
Be patient during dismantling and assembly. There are a lot of screws and in addition the small house aside the tower has to be removed, too.
