Like Gabe the Lamplighter we reworked the 497 coal loader. Like Gabe you only press one button and it cycles through dumping the coal from the coal car, the trough lifts the coal to the top bin, the trough comes back down and the coal is dumped back into the coal car waiting for the next button push.

Here is a video of it in action but you have to tilt your head to the left.

Here is a video of the workings under the table. These parts are on the floor.

Dennis Straus was the head guy on this (Lenny and I took a step back). It was one of our hardest with finding new motors and other parts but it was a good when everything came together. Enjoy

That is the mechanism that runs the 497. The bar that is rotating is triggering on and off the coal dump and the motor up and down. Using this method our guests press one button and it runs everything in the proper order.

I hope anyone who is going to be on Long Island will visit the Lionel Visitors Center Layout in the RR Museum of Long Island. We open the first Saturday in April. Hope the snow is gone by then.
