This is a before and after of my 5x8 layout.   I have removed all the stuff to move it into my train room and I will rebuild it different except for the outside line will stay.  Doug

Wow, this layout brings back many childhood memories, very neatly done. I would add a border around the table just to make sure nothing goes to the floor, but that’s  a personal thought. Thanks for posting this nice thread. Happy Railroading Everyone

John, If you look at each side of the layout your basing this on, you will see that the outer loop is connected on each side run.

The lanterns on Fastrack are easily lost and if your storing it behind a dresser then they definitely will fall off and get lost or broken.
