CEE7C6F1-DE9D-46EE-8D73-F29B0E850A4FHowdy. The lady got me one of these for Christmas after we rode in one in November. We would like to remove the silhouette windows and build an interior. Before I just start taking screws out are there any tips for disassembly? Or any gotchas?  Thanks in advance!!

C Murley ... RE: "What are the LED strips you already had so I can source them"

I bought a 5 meter length roll of LED tape light 12v smd3528, warm white flexible tape light.  There are about 60 individual LEDs spaced evenly over each meter of length ... about 18 LEDs per foot.  For every three LEDs, there is a solder joint that you can cut across with scissors and then solder your power wires to the tape solder joint.  For an 18 inch long passenger car, that'd mean you cut a length of about 15 inches ... 7 continuous groups of 3 each LEDs.  Do a google search with key words: "LED tape light 12v smd3528 warm white"   You want SMD 3528 which is size of the LED ... 3.5 mm x 2.8 mm.  I put a coat of Tamiya clear orange x26 over each LED after installing on my passenger cars to give the illumination a 'warmer' look.  I bought online from Amazon for about $10.  Lots of them available from variety of manufacturers.  Likely also available from your local big box store.

Have attached couple of photos to give you idea of wiring the LED tape lights into your passenger car.  Also do a search here on OGR forum and you'll find a number of other posts that document best practices for adding LED lighting to passenger cars.

Having said all of this, if you are only doing one passenger car, you might just buy a GRJ Kit of 1) ready-made LED lighting regulators  and 2) LED tape light strips.  His kits provide instructions for making the mod for your passenger cars ... available via Hennings Trains.   I wanted to do 8 passenger cars plus use the remaining LED tape light strips to illuminate some of my scale scenery buildings so 15 meters of light strip that I could cut to any length suited my needs.

thanks for the info, ive been emailing John back and forth today about it.  got the led strips on order and will call Hennings tomorrow to get the regulator.  im familar with the LED strips as we use them in aircraft instrument panels. but i didnt know that they were available in 5V  which is what i want for running conventional.  my trains (williams) rarely get over 11 volts because the darn things can really pull, and i even have them wired in series.  even my RS3, pulling one lionel passenger car, and 5 atlas passenger cars runs around the layout at 11.5v.  anyways, thanks for the info guys, ill post some pics throughout the process!
