Hello, bought this 4-4-0 Southern Pacific  from a hobby shop going out of business. Bought as new but would not run on the Legacy system and only ran backwards like a bullet on traditional AC! I am suspecting the DCDR-S board but I was hoping for a little guidance here. The sound seems to be ok as when I toggle the chuff switch, the sound is correct.

Thanks in advance,

Chuck

Gunrunnerjohn are you out there?

If it doesn't work at all on Legacy (obviously using the TMCC setting), then you need to first check the R2LC, it may simply be loose.  Another suspect is the antenna (handrails), check continuity to frame, they should NOT be connected to the frame.

Let's be more precise, exactly what happens if you power it up with the Legacy system connected?  Does it take off, or just sit there?

Also, you item number is for a 4-4-2, not a 4-4-0 - accuracy is always better for generating help, even though you listed the item number.

Expanding on the advise above, open up the loco and tender and press all the boards and connections into place. Eyeball everything. Get familiar. Usually this doesn't reveal the issue - but it can, and this is the voice of experience. Cheap, too.

Hello Guys,

Thanks for the replies. D500, you are correct it is a 4-4-2 (I had been working on a 4-4-0 earlier sorry). I should explain better just what I have done, I have reseated all the boards but I didn't check on the antenna rails yet (Thanks, gunrunnerjohn). Also, in Legacy mode I get no movement at all, I do hear a click in the audio board when addressed and power is applied and I can duplicate a chuff sound if I manually depress the switch. I will check the rails to make sure they are not grounded, recheck all connections and report my findings....Thanks,

Chuck
