When running the trolley, it will run alternately very slow and sluggish and then in 20 or 30 seconds will run very smooth. And will continue to run like that. 30 seconds or so. Sounds like a pepper grinder and then purrs like a kitten.
the motor and parts from the photo as you can see is very clean. Is there something I can do to improve the performance ?

I own a number of these motorized units and what you describe is a common problem. Sluggish operation with sounds that resemble a coffee grinder is usually resolved with opening up the motor, removing the armature shaft and giving both the gears and the base of the shaft a good lubrication.
