Anybody else get there donation request for FIRE UP 611. From Virginia Museum of Transportation?
Replies sorted oldest to newest
I did hear that they were sent out, but mine has not arrived in the mail yet. Looking forward to writing the VMT a check.
Yes I have, and I've never had any contact with the museum before. Somebody is selling names and addresses, eh?
Got mine on Monday. I donated to the Fire Up 611 study after the Horseshoe Curve trip.
If you have not received the donation information and you'd like to make a donation you can do so by mail, or online.
Remember, donations mailed directly to the museum are not charged a fee, and therefore more of your donation will go directly to the restoration effort.
NEW OPTION: EBAY GIVING AUCTIONS & PAYPAL DIRECT DONATIONS => Set up your own auction(s) with a selectable percentage of your sales price going to VMT & the FireUp611 Project; or make an outright donation using PAYPAL !!!
To donate online, copy down & paste the address within the image below into your browser address bar.
To donate by mail, use the mailing address, also within the image below.

Whereas I have a personal interest in seeing 611's Restoration come to pass, I am not directly affiliated with the restoration committee or VMT other than being a VMT member. I have previously made my own donation, and I will be giving again.

I got one yesterday. Where did they get the address's from? Is 611 overdue an overhaul just need funds to run?

Not an "overhaul" but she does need the FRA mandated 15 year boiler inspection.
Either way donate what you can, all will help towards getting her under steam again. I have donated and will donate again.

Mine showed up in the mail on Tuesday.
I will 'slip' them a check this weekend since it is 'pay the bills Saturday'

Got one and put it in the circular file with the rest of the junk mail.
Thanks Brian for your highly informative post!

You are welcome. Did I not answer the original posters question? It was junk mail. I have never had contact with them so they got my info from some list somewhere. It is not a project I will be sending funds to. My interests in steam are mostly narrow gauge and about 40 years older than the 611. If her fans raise the funds I am happy for them.
I assume that you provide financial support for, oh maybe the East Broad Top, or the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad?
I'm with Brian in this one...
CSX isn't going to let them run her around here, and I can't afford to travel to see her, so its up to her fans to pay for her un-retirement.
Now... Once funds are requested for restoration to service of Mohawk #3001, I'm in!
Thanks,
Mario

Received one yesterday. I'd sure like to see her steaming around here, but this is 844/3985 territory.
Well, we can't donate to all of them. I would love to but I don't have the money for it either....I own 2 garbage disposals that never stop eating food.....2 young boys..
