Scott, I agree, not only are there many highly knowledgeable, skilled, and talented folks on the forum, there is also a spirit of generosity and willingness to share that is just really wonderful.  I know I have received a lot of help here.  It is greatly appreciated.

 

 

 

Johns always around with a wealth of valuble information when it comes to the electronic "whizzbang stuff" in modern trains.

 

Theres a reason he's #1 in the ranking when it comes to the most posts, "share" would be an understatement

Scott, I'm glad they continued to run, sometimes you never know.   It was great to meet you guys at York, and I look forward to many more such encounters.

I have referred issues to John several times. He is a great resource to bounce ideas off of and to help keep you on the right track.

We really do have to have more forum gatherings in this area, it's a real blast meeting all the guys and talking trains.  I'll have to bribe Alex to have another one of his, that was fantastic.  I'm going to miss Trainstock at the NJ Hi-Railers this year, I'm really bummed out about that, we have a modular show locally on that weekend.  For some reason they wouldn't reschedule it due to my scheduling conflict, I simply don't understand that.

 

John hope to see you at Allentown in 2 weeks. Call me we'll meet up.

Brad, I'll be at the Phila Art Museum doing our modular show on the 9th, so my plan is the 10th.

John is a real asset to this forum. Lots of knowledge that he is very willing to share.

I have learned so much from all the forum members. Thanks to all.

 

Through Gunrunner John's posts and advice I gained the confidence to open up my trains and work on them. John also helped me understand circuits and resistors better and I now have a ball lighting things and personalizing them.

 

Thanks so much John for all your help  and advice the past few years. You led me into a part of the hobby I never thought I would get to and I'm having a ball doing it. For example I installed a Cruise M I purchased from Boxcar Bill in my K-line K4 yesterday.  Something I learned from reading John's posts and also guidance from Boxcar Bill.

 

Three cheers for John and the many others that take their time to explain things to me and so many others....often over and over again...no easy task. 

The Gunrunner has given me all kinds of useful advice and information, including setting me on the right track to fix a blown smoke triac and a shorted out smoke unit on a K-Line Berkshire. That piece of advice saved me the price of a new R2LC board, not to mention that I now know what a smoke triac looks like and how to replace it. And that's just one of the many things he's helped me with.

Gunrunner John is the greatest.  He talked me through the process of upgrading my DCS to Proto 3.0.  I had followed all the correct steps in connecting the DCS to the computer but could not get it to upgrade.  As I recall, John suggested reconfiguring the computer (lowering the firewall or perhaps turning off virus protection - I forget exactly what the remedy was) and after I followed his direction, the upload processed to PS 3.0!  I am forever grateful.  Gunrunner John is an expert in computers as well as trains and came through for me in the PS 3.0 upgrade where calls to MTH technical support failed.

John is a very knowledgeable guy, he really knows his electronics. He has helped me many many times.

 

I've always said Marty Fitzhenry, Gunrunner John, and Box Car Bill are the electronics wizards on this forum, I'm sure there's many more, but I just don't know them.

I can't express how good it makes me feel that I've been able to help so many people.  Thanks all for the kind words, I'll try to live up to them in the future.

 

I've learned a great deal in the forums, a lot more than I've given.  There are so many experts on almost any conceivable topic here, it's great to be able to tap such a vast knowledge base when you have a question.  The wealth of accumulated knowledge here is awe inspiring, this is a great resource.

 

John is a tremendous asset to this Forum and has helped me out numerous times. He has vast knowledge of electronics, but to help people, that's not the whole story. Too often, you run into "experts" who can't (or won't) communicate what they know in terms that the rest of us "grunts" can follow.  As a retired teacher, you pick up on those traits in a person immediately.           Thanks, John

I've often wondered about that handle of his anyway.  The current administration STILL hasn't come clean on the 'Fast & Furious' scandal...  Perhaps our Gunrunner can shed some light on the situation?

Heck, I've probably live about 20 minutes away from you AND was also at Alex' and I've yet to have the pleasure of meeting you.

Johns a nice guy we met briefly at Alex's forum party and he put on a little demonstration of a TMCC crane for me and another club member.

I met John for the first time at York.  We have also briefly emailed a couple of times.  John has a vast knowledge about many things but particularly the electronics.  John, wish I would have had more time to spend with you during York but as you know I was on a mission from my employers to help secure the continuation of our forum and great magazine!!  Thanks so much for taking the time to introduce yourself and hopefully there will be many more times for us to meet and become friends..

It's been really great being involved here, and I certainly hope someday to meet all the people that hang out here.  There were people at York from California, so there's hope.  I don't know about the Aussie's, that's a long way to come!

 

I don't know if I can apply for sainthood yet, but if I did, maybe I'd look like this?

John, you reflect, in action, the adage, "Be what you want the universe to be to you" (actually, I just canned that). You really have been so helpful to so many, not just in this site, but Model Train Forum and others. You've shared fixes and solid info. (you could just as easily have put out your own fix-it book, you've gotten many people in touch with another amazing man, Jeff Kane of The Train Tender, and you do all these things just because you enjoy sharing. Long may you Run, Gunner John!

I have to add my Thanks for all of John's contributions as well. Just tonight I installed another set of 4 lights in a streets vehicle without a hitch based on his advice. I then installed a speaker from a previous posts advice and the sound is incredible based on his recommendations.

I'd have written a book, but I worked in aerospace for years, and the amount of technical documentation I had to write and revise has put me off writing a book!  I killed a LOT of trees in my career!  

 

It's much easier doing it in snippets here.  Of course, the pay is probably not as good, but the thank you's more than make up for it.

 

Maybe you can get a York Hall named after you. 

The bad news is that it will be the old Green Hall.

I'll have to jump in also.  John and George (aka GGG) are responding to some of my posts about upgrading my Williams brass 2-8-2 to PS2 as I type.
