I operate all tinplate on a tinplate layout but there are sessions with "modern equipment. All the signals buildings etc are tin. I guess I am more into the toy side of the spectrum than realism based on 1950's layouts ( display or otherwise) Does anyone else mix it up with categories? I noticed most layouts are realistic, some are more tinplate. Maybe there are more Heinz "57"varieties than I am aware of. Any videos of examples?

Id love to see them.

wow.  i'm sitting here watching your video over and over.   that is a really nice mix of equipment.   i'm into the toy train aspect so to me nothing is out of place, run it all together, the more different stuff the better.   i guess what really caught me is how much complexity and interest there is in not a huge area, but nothing is crowded.  i keep seeing something new.  you say it's tinplate, but you've got a lot of scenery and detail, even ballast.   i especially like the marx accessories, they're my favorite pices of tin.  is that a keystone fiberboard service station? looks a little different than the one i'm familiar with...

i'm standard gauge so it's all toy tinplate, and still under constuction.

that's a little 'unique lines' switch tower over in the corner, is it?

I have had larger layouts and I think ( from experience) that putting together a smaller one is definitely more of a challenge. Youre right, it is a Keystone gas station and even with those there's some variations. I was lucky to find one with a working elevator. Some are handmade tinplate buildings, candy dispensers..The grocery and the diner are reworked tin Coke canisters..some scenic stuff. it's a real mash-up. A little of this and a little of that. Modern operating accessories. I wondered if anyone else was doing something similar..Thanks for the compliment. That is a Unique Lines Switch tower in the corner..I hope to illuminate it in the future.

The borders are getting blurred these days. Darstaed is making both diecast and tinplate locos pulling tinplate trains. My personal favorite is pulling my Darstaed Golden Arrow Pullman set with my Brown MTH Chapelon. It just does not get any prettier than that.

Also my layout on a door is a high rail style layout running both tinplate and diecast. They look wonderful together.

Don't forget, it's your railway and anything goes, there's only one person you have to please.
