At a railroad equipment exhibition in Allentown, Pa., last year, Moe Tivpower, Equipment Operations Manager for the PRND&L, spotted a great bargain on a K-Line by Lionel boxcab locomotive. He brought the specimen back to the boys in the shops to see what they could do with it. Initial tests proved that two engines would be much more effective than one, so a second shell was located and purchased. Pilots and porches were fabricated from old BEEP shells. Hardwood squares were glued into the corners of the body shells and they were attached to the BEEP engine chassis with screws.
The new electrics are seen here in their first revenue run on the PRND&L under the railroad’s new “invisible catenary.”
