When someone signs on as a member of this forum or joins TCA they're required to provide certain information, one of which is their birthdate.

In a number of past post discussions it's been lamented that with a considerable number of "older" rr hobbyists, an infusion of younger rr enthusiasts is needed to keep model rr vibrant and alive. From the birthdate statistics both OGR and TCA have collected, it would be interesting knowing what the age range of OGR's forumites and TCA members is and what are the percentages of the various ages within that range -- i.e., teens, twenty-somethings on up to those in their seventies, eighties and beyond. That's assuming the info provided by those who've joined OGR and TCA is truthful and honest and I have no reason to believe otherwise.

So what about it OGR and TCA - will you divulge this information to rr hobbyists so we'll know the actual age demographics of this hobby?

Allan, am I correct in assuming a significant majority is in the area of 60-65% and Michael, with you being surprised how many are 40 or younger, should I assume that number is in the range of 35-40%?  (I've choose those percentages b/c combined they average roughly 100%.)

Thank you Allan and Michael for your replies.

Probably a bit higher than that, although it would take some research to determine if or how much change may have occurred in more recent times.  I find it hard to believe that the number of younger participants could have increased all that much.

And keep in mind--always--that the number of responses to any one forum thread is still a drop in the bucket compared to the total number of registered users and the many who may "lurk" but are not even registered to actively participate.
