A comparison of a Railking Union Pacific Offset Steel Caboose vs. a Premier Union Pacific Offset Steel Caboose. Both have the same dimensions, interior illumination and the same weight.

1. Cupola - RK has molded in detail of hand grabs; Premier has raised, separately applied hand grabs, and antenna.

2. Side View - RK has molded-in, unpainted hand grabs, and minimal graphics. Premier has a brakeman in the cupola, separately applied, painted hand grabs, and more graphics.

Rear End On View - Premier has warning light and road number on edge of roof, plus additional painted and separately applied hand grabs.

Front End On View - same as rear

Undercarriage View - the same on each car

The difference in details is noticeable, but not glaringly so, when compared in a static display. Moving along a layout, even less so. I think the biggest detail discrepancy is the absence of the UP shield on the RK caboose, which can be easily rectified with after market decals.

You didn't mention that the RailKing caboose has small-diameter pickup rollers.  These can get caught in the flangeways of certain 90-degree crossings.  The Premier caboose has larger rollers that don't get caught anywhere.

There are some work-a rounds for the small MTH rollers. One involved bending the contact connector down slightly and second was good lubrication on the roller shaft.
