You bet they should! - Good Ideas Everyone.

Lionel needs to get off track to help keep the Hobby on Track…lol

I think a Troop Train pulling a tank platoon would be great.

Here is where Lionel gets off track, sort of?  Make the Tanks Remote Control….That would increase the play value tremendously!. You have to admit it would be more fun then launching a spring loaded rocket?

Also included in this Outfit would be a Headquarters, a couple 2.5 ton trucks, and a Latrine

Tanks for reading..

K.C.

Maybe try something for the entry level market and something for the Legacy level?  Some people on this thread are talking about making it only Legacy/TMCC, but I run conventional only.  And so does my father, so that means 2 sales out the window if you exclude some people.

So, why not something on the conventional level and another set for the Legacy/TMCC level?  The conventional could be an entry level set using existing tooling with special decoration and the Legacy/TMCC level could be a no holds barred, no detail spared WWII set.

It makes sense to market to both the entry market and the scale market.  Seems like Lionel could contract with a company to buy scale sized tanks, jeeps and half tracks and put them on both the traditional entry flat cars and on the scale flats.  I doubt a traditional buyer would be put off by a larger tank, while a scale enthusiast such as myself would not buy a scale flat car with an improperly sized tank.

Who is going to buy new-issue O-gauge trains with a WW2 nostaglia orientation, old men and military fans? I am all too well aware of the history. Both of my parents served overseas in WW2. What bothers me with this thread is the fun-and-games aspect of it. Millions of people died in that conflict and we should all remember that. It dramatically changed the history of the world and the ominous effects are still being felt. I'm not enthusiastic about the idea of commercialized "commemorative" train stuff about The War.

I get your point, ACE, but to me the military train is more to honor and remember those who gave so much.  War is hell and for that reason alone should not be forgotten.  In the past we have commemorated the moon landing and breast cancer awareness on train cars.  Also Daffy Duck.  I think most of the folks in the hobby take after the commemoration aspect of a military train.

As a side note, if Pearl Harbor Docksider parts are on Lionel's website, and since I've never seen a Pearl Harbor anything in my 25 years in the hobby, I think it a safe bet that the lion has a new docksider in the offing.

I have two active duty Marines and one active duty Army.  I am starting to put together trains that commemorate their experiences, and they are looking forward to seeing them! Not much to go on unless you are into building models with incredibly small pieces.

I picked up a Lionel Marine Air Sea Land train a few years ago, and all the Marines that saw the picture got a big laugh. Especially as the Marines are giving the Navy a ride on the set.

Er, the 100 year end of WW ONE is two years away!

100 years, wow. My grandfather never fully recovered from WW1 shrapnel injuries and died prematurely at age 38.

How about an Armistice car for O-gauge. This one is HO:

HO scale Armistice car-

A lot of history behind that car ... it also got involved with WW2:

The original car was destroyed in 1945 but a replica has been built:

Sounds like a good idea to me. I particularly like the idea of military equipment on flats. I'd like to see:

-Jeeps

-Sherman Tank

-Duce and a Half

-Maybe a plane in pieces (who has the K-line Plane toolings? Mount that to a flat car with a few boxes)

-Maybe some artillery?

-Then maybe a coach or two for troop movement?

As for the engine, I'd rather see a black steam engine with "U.S. Army" written in white lettering on the tender (or at least something along those lines). I think this would be more attractive than a green engine, like they did a few years ago. I also think that the flat cars should either be lettered the same, or for various railroads, as if they just happened to be in the yard when they needed a flatcar.

I think this set could be a home run. They might even consider a Legacy version, and a Lionchief Plus traditional version.

Now you are talking I would like to see something like this.US ARMY RAIL ROADS The great smoky mountain railroad has a steam locomotive that once worked for the army rr.Also heres another film of the army guys doing there thing to help out in the war effort.ANOTHER ARMY RAILROAD FILM Give me a  good sized 2-8-0 with us army on the tender.

No one here is gonna make light of the war.Heck when I was a kid me and my grandparents were in town.Walking down the street they saw an man on the other side of the street. They told my he fought in that war.We chatted for a little bit. What I will always recall how modest he was about itFor some reason ww2 vets have this modest/humble about the war.Well at least the few I häve meet..A little later on found out I had 2 uncles that were in it to.Trust me no one is making light of that war.Because over have members her their parents were in that war.In some chases both parents.

Not just WWII.  Also, with the Treaty, the start of the Middle East issues!
