I ready to find a Lionel 69 Maintenance Car again ... I thought under the platform their was a number molded in it, I'm pretty sure all 6812 Car platforms (original ones) have that number molded in them ..But so far all  Lionel 69 Maintenance Cars I seen or asked about have nothing No numbers at all  nothing no mold letters or anything.

How can I tell if I am getting a true original car and not repro platform one. the men look obvious with the colors but platforms look the same. Thanks for the info ...DANiel

Below you will find a photograph of two maintenance car platforms, both from the Modern Era.
As far as I know, Lionel made this piece twice in the modern era. The first time, the colors were changed, as was common practice for Lionel at the time. The dark gray platform is from that issue. The second time, the colors were done to copy the original 1960's postwar piece, but the mold was modified.
Compare the support posts that go over the brush plate. The light grey one is much thinner, and has a hole in it's center.

I cannot lay my hands on an #69 maintenance car right now. I think the platform has the fat post with no hole. It should be light grey.

By the way, in the first half of the 1970's someone was making a reproduction of that platform in metal. I purchased one, and still have it around somewhere. Boy was it heavy!
