This has been answered in another rather lengthy thread.

One of the electronic components the China manufacturer used for one that was obsolete did not function as intended.

They are in the process of trying to resolve the issue but may be having difficulty getting the proper electronic component.

While they do have a reputation to keep, they are a small company. The reputation to keep is the reason the 990's are taking so long. As MartyE stated, no one wants them released more than Lionel does, not even me, and that is a fact. Here are the facts right from the 'horses mouth' so to speak. Santafefan is their chief technical officer, his post pretty much says it all. We just have to be patient, they will be along someday.

The Legacy 990 systems with issues had only newer versions of the *same* part numbers, which caused some issues and delays to the consumer.  The newer parts should have worked, but did not.  The changes to the code and hardware were such that functionally the Legacy 990 design has not changed, but adjusted to continue to meet specifications.  Engineering was responsible for the direction to make these parts work, and they were very, very, minor adjustments.  It just takes time to research and correct, hence the delays.  We are truly sorry for the delays, we want the product to be right.

Thanks to RickO for posting this to the other thread where I found this and thanks to Santafefan for the posting update for us. Nice to know what's happening.

Maybe I should add that I ordered mine last Labor Day weekend, so in a couple weeks my wait will be a year. So I am in the no Legacy yet camp.

The fact of the matter is, there are folks that have been waiting far longer for other items from other manufacturers.

While it may not make it right, in short, it is the result of the miniscule market of o guage trains.

No brand is "safe" from long production delays.

If you want faster delivery, pick a more popular hobby.

It sounds like, since the parts have been made, that they are now trying to rewrite the logic/programming to make what they have work, vice having new parts made.  At least that's what I get out of the blurb RickO alerted us to.

Understandable, nobody wants to pay for parts they can't use and then pay again for correct parts.  Just hope that doesn't drive the price up for you guys that have ordered this.
