I was working on a legacy ac6000 (6-38410) which would often get driver board errors.  I noticed that the top small board was not seated well on main board.  All of the 3 pins on one side were broken,  My question is three parts

1. can, that top board which the antenna plugs into be replaced separately? I do not see the small board on the parts site

2. Are the pins replaceable and where would you get them

3. Am I better off replacing the entire motor board.

thanks

Marty

Well for 1, the answer is no. They will only sell you the whole main board and you generally need to order it through a Lionel Authorized Service Center. However the main board is available for purchase without having to to do the above for the particular engine. Refer to 6-38410 replacement parts link.

2. If you are good with soldering and have a solder sucker on hand (so you can remove the broken pins easily), you can fix this pretty easily. Finding the exact pins might be a bit of a stretch, but if you can find them. You certainly can fix them.

3. Well it really depends on if you want to spend 120 dollars, plus tax and shipping, verses a few dollars on a replacement pin array and the cost to ship it to someone to help you repair it (if you don't feel confident fixing it yourself). So the choice is yours in the end.

It's not a problem to fix the TMCC receiver for the RCMC, those pins are pretty standard machine pins that are readily available.  I've fixed several of them, the pins are pretty fragile.  I notice in the last several years that Lionel has been soldering these to the main RCMC board, obviously the pins getting broken and/or the receiver falling off was getting tiresome.
