I have a love for the RSD-15 and since Atlas seems to be the only outfit supplying these I want to get one. Does anyone know the difficulty of adding PS2 or even PS3 when available to these?
Thank you!

I don't know the degree of difficulty but the unit itself is long- esp the high nose version. there is lots of room for Ps2 and the standard "China Drive" should be simple to install.
Well, I will be going gator on this and an SP or Cotton Belt model so the high nose is out. I just want to make sure there isn't something funky that makes Atlas engines problematic in general.
How narrow the body is and room for the speaker (tank??), and type of lights used and how installed would be the issues. The kit comes with new lights, but some times the ones in the engine are almost in there permenantly. If they are 6V bulbs no need to change them for PS-2. G
Hi TexasSP,
I haven't converted an Atlas RSD-15, bu tI have done a few RS-1's. They were rather easy conversions. The board fits under the hood with the standard mounting bracket, the sound trim pot was reusable, and the speed matches the MTH standard curve without making a custom tach tape. For the RSD-15 you could pick your sound file between an RS-11 (12 cylinder 251 prime mover) or a PA (16 cylinder 244 prime mover).
I installed the guts from a RailKing F3 into an Atlas GP9 a few years ago. It came out fine, all you have to do is be careful as there's not much room.
My GP9 was actually a dummy and I got the necessary drive gears from Atlas and used the MTH motors and PS2 electronics. The MTH motors fit perfectly.
You'll most likely have to drill a couple of holes to mount the boards, but that's easy. I ended up having to buy a wiring harness from a PS2 upgrade kit as the F3 harness didn't have all the wiring for the lights, then I had to do a Factory Reset and download a sound file for a GP9. I did not use the Atlas lights that came with the dummy.
Thanks for the feedback guys. Looks like I may soon have a gator rolling on my tracks.
At some point, I will get it repainted to look like this guy:

TexasSP,
If you use DCS I would simply add a TMCC command base to your setup, thus negating the need to add PS2/PS3 guts into the loco. I just found a NIB TMCC command base at a local hobby shop for $79.99. I've added it to my TIU and threw my Atlas GP15 TMCC loco on the tracks. Fired up my DCS remote, added engine. Done!

The hood shouldn't be an issue as the width is scale and is no diffferent than a premier diesel from the MTH line. the Speaker in the fuel tank is a standard 50mm [2" diameter"] speaker. You will have to verify if PS2/Ps3 uses the 8 ohm speaker
[what's in the loco already] or a 4 ohm speaker which can easily be purchased in aftermarket electronic stores really cheap.
There are only headlights to worry about as far as this loco is concerned.

The PS2 upgrade kits come with a 4Ω speaker to replace the stock 8Ω. IIRC, the PS2 kit speaker was a direct replacement fit in the RS1. Hopefully the same would be true with RSD-15.
